Introduction

You are now a genetic counselor who is analyzing genetic disorders in three different families.  Your team's task is to give each patient a detailed anaysis that evaluates the specific disorder and provides the patient with feedback that will allow them to come to a concise conclusion about starting a family. 
 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Task

In order to complete this task, your team will use the internet to research each genetic disorder. 
Create an organized report that will evaluate the family's history.
Provide each family with a pedigree chart using Inspiration that will show a graphic diagram of the impact the defective gene will have on their future offspring.
Create a PowerPoint presentation to submit your findings to each family.



Process

Step 1:
Create a team name that will represent your genetic counseling company.

Step 2:
Open genes to find the genetic disorder case studies.
Use the "CUCC" method to analyze each case study.

Step 3:
To research each genetic disorder go to School Discovery.Com.

Step 4:
Organize the information found in the research by creating a pedigree chart using Inspiration.

Step 5:
Compile a report from the research and the pedigree chart, by integrating all findings into a PowerPoint slide presentation.

Congratulation!  You have just completed your first WebQuest.  Now it is time to demonstrate your team's understanding of the genetic inheritance.  Create a PowerPoint presentation that gives an indepth analysis of the each case study.  This analysis should include an integration of both the research and pedigree chart for each disorder (case study).   A mastery of understanding will be evident in students' final product.
