Introduction

Your dream of becoming a highly paid art historian for The National Gallery of Art has finally come true.  Your first job responsibility is to work collaboratively with five other art historians to research and present the key components of an art movement.  Your findings will help curators decide which paintings were most important and representative of the movement for an upcoming exhibit.  Your research will provide the curators with key information that will help them understand the chronological order of the art works as well as provide them with captions for the exhibit. Since you are new to the job, you really want to impress  you new boss by engaging in best practices of a researcher and working well with your colleagues.  Your first raise will depend on the success of this research project.  To aid in the focus of your research, think about the following question.

1.  What was the impact of the art philosophy on the visual arts?
2.  What was the impact of religion on the visual arts?
3.  What was the impact of architecture on the visual arts?
4.   What impact did the government of the period have on the visual arts?
5.  What impact did patrons have on the visual arts.

Task

Your task as an individual is to become an expert on one of the five research topics.  Your task as a team is to complete a Power Point presentation that informs and makes clear connections of cause and effect between the art produced and the five focus topics.  The skills required to succeed as an individual and as a team will vary.  Your research resources are comprised of your textbooks, Arttalk and Art In Focus the Internet, and various encyclopedia, dictionary and thesaurus resources available in CD ROM format.  Through the use of online web module, Blackboard.com, you will be able to work together during and after class as a group while keeping your findings in your individual and groups folders
