What drove exploration during the 16th and 17th centuries? How did the motives for exploration differ from country to country?
During the 1500's (16th century) and 1600's (17th century) European countries began exploring across the Atlantic Ocean. Christopher Columbus was one of the first explorers to attempt this great feat. His accomplishments sparked the interest of exploration in many other countries.

1. Find a partner assigned to the same country as you. Then using the Exploration Hot Topic List, select an explorer from the country you were assigned. Once you have reached an agreement on an explorer, email me your decision.

2. Review the Explorer Think Sheet before you begin your research so that you know what to look for on the internet.

3. After discussing the Think Sheet, begin your research using the Exploration Hot Topic List. You will need to take turns being the searcher and the recorder. Remember to keep a list of the websites you use. You will need them later.

4. As you search, look for a picture/illustration of your explorer and a map of the route he took on his voyage. If you are unable to locate either on the internet, use the textual resources in the classroom. Many routes will not be found on the internet and you will therefore need to locate them using other resources.

5. If you are using textual resources, you will need to scan the images in using the scanner. Be sure to save the scanned images and modify them as needed before adding them to your presentation.

6. Once you have completed the Think Sheet, begin completing the Exploration Slide Show Planning Sheet. This will be your rough draft.

7. After carefully reviewing the template, begin creating aÝ Explorer PowerPoint Presentation on your explorer. Do this by changing the information found on the template. Feel free to be creative and include graphics or illustrations that are appropriate to you explorer.

8. As you check your presentation for completion, remember to check for spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and grammar. Also, review the rubric to be sure you have completed all of the needed components and information.

9.Ý Once you have completed your PowerPoint slide show presentation, save it to your disk and title it your explorer's name with your initials after it (Example: columbusks -- A presentation on Columbus by Kim Slezak).
