Urban Education

Nature of Urban Education

Introduction

The urban education module is a useful tool. It provides educators with a concise summary of achievement trends in urban education derived from several reputable databases-including the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES), the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), and the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS).

In addition, educators can make use of the module to:
  • Familiarize themselves with current trends related to "best practices " and instructional strategies
  • Explore links to well-established national, state, and local resources
  • Improve content knowledge and pedagogical skills
  • Identify strategies employed by effective urban educators
  • Generate their own strategies to address topics related to academic achievement
